Wire and Plastic Binding Examples

Some open and closed examples of binding methods using Plastic Combs,  Wire Binding and Coil Binding.  All the binding consumables come in a wide range of colours and sizes to suit your requirements.

Wire binding is the most practical method if aesthetics and ease of reading are a priority. Very popular for reports, submissions, manuals or any document that needs to look attractive and be easy to handle. Plastic comb binding is an easy binding method particularly if you have strict budgetary constraints and you do not mind the heavy comb finish. Coil binding is a loser bind often used for notebooks, recipe books, creative scrap booking swatches and photograph albums.

Plastic comb systems can allow for addition or removal of pages after binding, although this can be rather messy and time consuming and is not recommended.

In all binding methods, the sheets and the covers to be bound are punched with a row of perforations punched along the binding edge. The binding machine is set with the wire or plastic comb or coil which is then inserted through the holes Wires are secured by the machine being set at a specific setting and clinched close. Plastic combs are opened by a series of "hooks" then closed by releasing a handle. Coils are inserted by using either an electric or manual coil inserter or by hand.

Where wire or plastic binding is contemplated provision should be made for a sufficiently wide gutter margin to accommodate the punch holes. Some models of binders come with additional and very useful features such as margin control and punch cancellation pins to bind a variety of different paper and document sizes.

A clear or matt PVC protective cover is often used to give an attractive finish  to the document and also protects your document.
